South England Amateur Groundfighting Competition - 2003

Stuart Edwards from the Kenshin Do Ryu Ju-Jitsu club in Reading recently
took part in the South England Amateur Groundfighting Competition in Poole,
Dorset.

The competition attracted many entries from various systems. There were
competitors from Judo, Ju-Jitsu, Shoot Wrestling, Submission Fighting etc.

Stuart was fighting in the 80kg & over division. His first fight was against
a Brazilian Ju-Jitsu player. The fight went the distance (2x3 min rounds & 2
mins overtime) with both fighters showing great skill & technique as they
countered each others submission attempts. Stuart eventually got into a side
control & held his opponent down for 20 seconds.

Stuart's second fight was against a submission fighter. The submission
fighter won the bout with a technique that was a cross between a scarf hold
& a neck crank.

After the 80kg & over division was finished the open weight division started.
This was for the South England Amateur Grappling title.

Stuart's first opponent was a Ju-Jitsu player. Stuart once again achieved
side control & held him down for the 20 count. The next fight was a repeat
of the first.

In the final, Stuart gave away size & strength to his considerably larger
opponent. Stuart's opponent achieved a hold down and was close to the 20 sec
count when Stuart managed to bridge & turn over. Now in the opponents guard,
Stuart used his own gi & choked out his opponent.

Stuart is now the Southern England Amateur Grappling Champion & was placed
third in the 80kg & Over division
