Feedback from the website
My name is Duncan Robert Mark and am a
former member of the ZJC. I used to train in Midhurst with
Ted Underwood and in Petersfield with 'Mac'. I was delighted
to find this website and to see that the ZJC is thriving.
I have been living in Japan for the last 16
years! I practiced at the Kodokan for a while while living
in Tokyo, and
later moved to the countryside and maintained my practice with
local clubs. I also continued practicing my Aikido,
eventually setting up a dojo in my local town here in Japan.
I have been very vocal here in Japan about how
good the ZJC experience was. I was invited to speak at the
Kodokan some years ago and spoke at length about the benefits
of a Zen approach to judo as I experienced
at the ZJC. I have also had articles published in the kodokan
magazine about my experiences of japanese
martial arts in which I took the opportunity to praise the
ZJC.
I am sure you are aware of Ippon Books and their
series of technical manuals. I ghost wrote the one on
Osaekomi with Kashiwazaki Katsuhiko. I highly recommend the
series to those who are interested.
I am now living in Tadotsu, Shikoku, Japan.
I am a lecturer at the college attached to the headquarters
of
Shorinji Kempo. This means that I am living a Zen life full-time
as the college is located within the temple
complex. Anyone interested should look at www.shorinjikempo.or.jp.
Yours sinceely,
Duncan Robert Mark

Dear All, I used to attend Zen Judo Club
in Petersfield and I remember Valerie and Mac with great affection.
My dad used to run a club with me in the 80's and I eventually
attained my black belt in 1984. Through Zen I earnt my Brown
belt and then I attended George Maloney's judo club in Portsmouth
and got my junior Black belt and then when I turned of age
my senior black belt. I was extremely saddened to hear of Mac's
passing, and fondly remember his dog ToeJoe. I was also very
friendly with Peggy and Adrian, and wish them well. I am now
living in Australia and although I do not practice Judo anymore
I still remember all the moves and have taught my teenager
children and hubby judo. Good luck with the world wide success
in Zen Judo and maybe one day there will be a club in Sydney.
