Zen Judo Comes Trowbridge - Mike Healy 4th Dan ZJF / BZJFA

Dear All,

After my wanderings throughout the South and West of England I have come to rest in a place called Dilton Marsh.

Those of you who know me well will also know that this means i must start a Zen Judo Class in the area and the first 'launch' event (pun intentional) takes place, with help from Caroline and the other members of the Thatcham Club, this coming Saturday the 27th March at The Martial Arts Centre, Unit 9, Sandown Centre, Epsom Road, White Horse Business Park, Trowbridge. From 4 to 5:30pm.

I have been fortunate enough to discover a dedicated Martial Arts Facility in Trowbridge just at a time when they had spare capacity.

I look forward to seeing any members of the Zen Judo family any time they feel like dropping by and I'm sure Nick and Helen Beaven, who owen and run the centre, will welcome them at the numerous other classes that are on offer.

Regards

Mike Healy.

A thought for the New Year - John Robertson 1st Dan ZJF / BZJFA

We should all take the time in our busy lives to take stock of what we are doing and why we are doing it, this helps us to learn from our mistakes and to progress in life.

This applies just as much to our Judo training as it does to life and work. And it is a useful exercise to reflect on our past training and teaching and see if there is room for improvement and growth.

The reasons for starting Judo are many, but as we progress up the belts it is important that we try to train both the body and mind. The aim of Zen Judo is to allow Tori to blend with the attack from Uke and to use the minimum amount of force or strength to throw Uke. This seems at first like an easy thing to learn (or teach) but as any senior grade will know the more time you spend studying Judo (life) the more you realise you have to learn.

Judo should be a long distance journey and not just a quick visit if it is to teach us anything useful. And it is worth checking to see if you (we) are learning and teaching the complete "Judo Art" or just a keep fit class.

Have a Happy Christmas and New Year.
